The truly impressive Enchanted Forest mural alongside the canal in Lembeek is part of the Scintillating Senne project of the city of Halle. Through this surprising and creative use of public space, we are aiming to introduce residents and visitors alike to the public sphere alongside the Senne. The project took nearly a month to complete, and around 950 litres of environmentally friendly paint were used along the way.
Halle's children feature in a story of hope
The mural was created by the Treepack artist collective. The artwork tells the story of a group of children in an enchanted forest who find paper and cardboard among the litter and turn them into origami animals. In doing so, they dream of a brighter future in which humanity and nature live side by side in harmony. To their amazement, a magic spell brings the origami animals to life. Children from the city of Halle were used as models for the characters appearing in the artwork.
Halle stakes its claim on the world street art map
Various other huge street art projects have popped up in Halle over the past few years, including at the train stations in Buizingen, Lembeek and the centre of Halle. Street artist Gijs Vanhee was given free rein on the drying tower behind Cultuurcentrum 't Vondel. Elsewhere, Bart Smeets and Steve Locatelli, two other major names on the street art scene, brought some colour to the walls of the vacant Paterskerk on Volpestraat. Inside the church, they created a fairylike primeval forest. Halle's most famous animal residents have also been appearing on electricity cabinets around the city, thanks to Tuzq.
